FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT S&P

How often do you rehearse? Full choir rehearsals are held every Tuesday evening from 7:30 to 10 PM at a church in downtown Oakland a few blocks from 12th Street Oakland BART (many of our choristers carpool from all over the East Bay and San Francisco, so don’t be discouraged if you live outside of Oakland!). Depending on the season, rehearsals begin two to three months before each concert.

Do you have illness prevention policies in place? The health and safety of our members, staff, and community are our top priority.  All rehearsals and concerts will follow safety protocols such as air filtration. Singers may sing masked or unmasked as they choose in rehearsals and concerts, but must observe strict protocols in the case of Covid-19 exposure or flu/cold symptoms. We continue to closely monitor local and state directives, public health guidelines, and work to keep the choral experience thriving safely.

Do you hold extra rehearsals when concerts get closer?  For each concert, we have one dress rehearsal per venue, as well as one or two additional rehearsals at some point in the season (typically on Wednesday nights). Typically, we also hold one “retreat” per season, which takes place midseason on a Saturday from 10 AM – 4 PM (with a nice break for a potluck lunch in the middle!) These extra rehearsals are dependent on public health guidelines.

What about sectional rehearsals? Sectional rehearsals are occasionally scheduled before regular rehearsals or on other days, as needed.

Who sings solos in your concerts? Solos are usually sung by regular chorus members, although we occasionally hire professional soloists.

If I’m interested in joining, can I see a concert for free to get a feel for the group? Prospective singers are welcome to attend a concert free of charge! Please email sacredprofane@gmail.com to receive access to a complimentary ticket.
