BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Sacred and Profane is governed by a board of directors that includes both chorus and community members.

Mark DeWitt, president

Mark DeWitt grew up listening to his parents rehearse and sing in a Lutheran church choir and started singing himself in that same Ohio church. He has had a varied career as a computer professional and music academic, and has sung in groups ranging from classical to college a cappella, jazz, gospel, and barbershop, joining Sacred & Profane in 2022. He has served on several boards and worked in advancement operations in the non-profit sector. He holds advanced degrees in music from New England Conservatory and UC Berkeley and is Professor Emeritus of Music at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Tomas joined his first choir in high school and choral singing has been an important part of his life ever since. A native of Sweden, he moved to the US in the mid-1990s. He was a member of the Columbia Choral Society in Columbia, SC, and joined Sacred and Profane after moving to California. His musical taste ranges from classical music to rock and just about anything in between, with a special affinity for big band jazz after a few fun years playing the baritone saxophone in a big band. Tomas joined the S&P board in 2019 and is currently serving as treasurer. He is an IT professional at a large staffing company, and a servant to several cats.

Michaela De Vries, Member-at-Large

Mishaela’s whole life has been wrapped up in music and the arts. From the age of six when she picked up her first violin, she was either playing violin or singing. As she grew, she added classical studies in piano and later on, voice. It was in high school that Mishaela decided choral music was a huge passion! Mishaela went on to earn her Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Oregon in 2004 where she studied choral music and methods under Dr. Sharon Paul and Dr. Shannon Chase. She had the opportunity to sing with Dr. Paul all four years of undergrad and participated in the select Chamber Choir of the UofO. Mishaela also had the opportunity to learn choral conducting in post-graduate studies at Portland State University, under the tutelage of Dr. Bruce Browne. Over the last twenty years, Mishaela has participated in various choirs - Sacred and Profane among them - taught many young music students and has held board membership in other non-profits. Mishaela is excited for the future of S&P and is grateful to be a part of the journey.
