Our annual open rehearsal returns--bring the family, ask questions about the rehearsal process, and make joyous noise with us!

In preparation for our December concert, Sacred & Profane welcomes you to our free open rehearsal on Saturday, November 14th at 3PM at the for approximately 45 minutes. Come observe our rehearsal process, ask questions, and even sing along! Young guests are encouraged to bring percussion instruments and experience the joy of making music together.

As the days grow shorter, join Sacred and Profane in December for the warmth of winter solstice traditions. We will sing music from holidays that celebrate light such as Swedish Lucia, Chanukah, and Kwanzaa, as well as secular music about the emotional power of light. Our concert includes Thomas Tallis’ Renaissance masterpiece O Nata Lux, music by Swedish composers Sven-David Sandström, Karin Rehnqvist, and Matthew Peterson; music of African American composers Bernice Johnson Reagon of Sweet Honey in the Rock and Marques L.A. Garrett; and works by local composers Daniel Afonso and David Conte. We conclude the concert with selections from Dale Trumbore’s A Calendar of Light about climate activism and invite you to sing with us!

Sacred and Profane Chamber Chorus invites you to join us for our Jul concert at the Swedish Church of San Francisco, featuring music for the holiday season from Sweden and beyond. We will sing music from solstice traditions that celebrates light, such as Lucia and Christmas, as well as secular music about the emotional power of light. Our concert includes music by Swedish composers Sven-David Sandström, Ulrika Emanuelsson, Karin Rehnqvist, and Matthew Peterson. We will also bring you music for the season by the Renaissance master Thomas Tallis, as well as contemporary settings by Marques Garrett and San Francisco Conservatory’s David Conte.

This concert is free; donations accepted at the door.

Excitement will be in the air in March as Sacred and Profane brings you joyful music for choir and organ with master organist Jonathan Dimmock. Our concert includes two beloved masterworks – Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms and Benjamin Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb. We also highlight our upper and lower voices with masterpieces by Francis Poulenc and sing beautiful music by contemporary composers Fredrik Sixten and Trevor Weston.

In May, we sing songs of resistance, including Melissa Dunphy’s United We Dream about immigrant rights, Sommerro’s Til Ungdommen about Scandinavian humanist democracy, Benjamin Britten’s Advance Democracy, and Ayanna Woods’ remarkable Shift. We sing works about home and belonging including beloved gems by Bruckner and Paulus, Caroline Shaw’s masterful and the swallow, and uplifting works by Michael Abel and Derrick Skye. We spotlight local talent with Kirke Mechem’s Great is the Truth, Eric Tuan’s The City of Friends, and the premiere of our own Edna Yeh’s Protest.
